Review: Apple’s 13″ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar — AppleInsider has the first review I’ve seen of Apple’s new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. It “embraces the future, delivering it in a super light, portable, attractive and expensive package. But are users ready to embrace that future? And does the 13-inch model have enough horsepower and connectivity?” Find out in AppleInsider’s full review. [And the good news is, I will also be reviewing this soon.]
15-inch MacBook Pro mystery connector connects to special apparatus for emergency data transfer — Apple’s tool for migrating data from a new 15-inch MacBook Pro’s SSD soldered to the motherboard has been spotted, and this utilises the unused connector discovered in tear-downs of the hardware. The tool will have to be used in the event of a failure involving any component with deep motherboard integration, such as Wi-FI, Touch ID, the SSD itself, or a GPU issue.
Macworld says “This recovery tool is a consolation prize. Because the new MacBook Pro’s key components are stuck on the logic board, the failure of any one of those parts could require replacing the entire conglomeration. Now we know how data will be transferred if disaster strikes.”
