Apple gives the MacBook and MacBook Pros a Kaby Lake refresh — Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is usually all about software, but every once in a while it brings some hardware. Today, Apple provided a minor but wide-ranging refresh to its modern MacBooks and MacBook Pros by adding new processors from Intel and making a handful of other tweaks.
The new processors come from Intel’s Kaby Lake family, and some of them have been available for the better part of a year but this is the first time they have appeared in Macs. Compared to the outgoing Skylake architecture, Kaby Lake introduces a gently tweaked version of Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process, provides small boosts to CPU clock speeds, and supports native acceleration for decoding and encoding some kinds of 4K video streams.

Apple finally releases full wireless keyboard with Numeric Keypad — Amid the WWDC furore, Apple quietly released a new wireless keyboard with a first-ever numeric keypad [I’ve always had to buy the wired version as the full numeric keyboard is so much more preferable to me]. Previous models only included the keyboard, with a numeric keypad sold separately. It’s available to buy today for NZ$219/US$129.
To use it, you’ll need to have a Bluetooth-enabled Mac with macOS 10.12.4 or later, or an iOS device running iOS 10.3 or later.
The numeric keypad is great for spreadsheets, finance apps and other numeral-heavy applications. The new keyboard’s battery lasts a full month in-between charges using a Lightning port. There is no shipping delay on this new product.

Watch Apple’s APPOCALYPSE video and it’s funny stuff — Apple showed a fun video called APPOCALYPSE during Monday’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote. It takes an absurdist look at what would happen if Apple’s App Store servers went down. It’s fun and funny, and it paid homage to developers with the tagline, “Keep making apps. The world is depending on you.” Check it out.

Michelle Obama’s Fireside Chat with Apple — One of the surprise announcements at WWDC 2017 was a conversation tomorrow with former First Lady Michelle Obama. It will be in the same building as the keynote (Hall 3) on Tuesday, June 6 from 12-1pm. [And she won’t be cribbing any lines from the current First Lady.]
