iFixIt tears down the Apple Smart Battery Case — Yesterday Apple surprisingly released the iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case. Now iFixIt has torn it apart to look at its innards. Some of the highlights include that Apple uses a soft, reinforced elastomer hinge design to accommodate all that bump in the trunk and to allow your phone to slide easily in and out of the case.
This battery more than doubles your iPhone 6s (6.55 Whr) capacity with 7.13 Whr (1877 mAh at 3.8 V) capacity.
For such a smart battery, it looks like most of the brains probably live in software on your iPhone. iFixIt only found some rudimentary ICs inside.

Apple TV app store growth — Yesterday’s AWT News Update mentioned that Apple’s content chief, Eddy Cue, had stated that there were “over 2,000” apps in the Apple TV App Store. The AppFigures blog came out with some detailed stats on how the newest App Store is faring one month into its lifetime. It’s gaining over 400 apps a week, mostly games.

Your Apple Watch can now interact with your GoPro gadget — GoPro, Inc has added Apple Watch features in the GoPro App for iOS to enable quick access to the camera’s controls right from your wrist. The app allows you to preview your shot, toggle between capture modes, start/stop record and add HiLight Tags to videos via the smartwatch. GoPro is also teasing its first-ever drone — officially called the Karma — due to ship in 2016.

UK prisoners might receive iPads to study and communicate with family — The UK’s Ministry of Justice is reportedly considering a proposal that would give prisoners iPads to use in their cells for studying and keeping in touch with family members.

Pixelmator gains Apple Pencil, 3D Touch support in latest update — Popular iOS image editor Pixelmator has been updated to support Apple’s latest hardware, including iPad Pro optimization with full Apple Pencil compatibility and 3D Touch integration for iPhone 6s.

Twitter’s Periscope claims App of the Year in Apple’s 2015 App Store picks — Apple has published its annual Best of 2015 feature for the App Store, highlighting the company’s own picks as well as overall bestsellers.

Mackie Master Fader v4 adds Split View and Real Time Analyzer to iPad-controlled mixers — Mackie has released Master Fader version 4, the app used to control their DL-series iPhone- and iPad-controlled mixers. The update adds a slew of new features including real-time analyzers on all outputs, the ability to copy and paste channel settings, split view support for compatible iPads, iPad Pro support, an enhanced iPhone UI and much more.
